Hi, I’m Chris — husband, father, and the hypnotherapist behind Chris Urquhart Hypnotherapy here in Banora Point, New South Wales. Before I ever sat across from a client, I spent years as a refinery operator, doing hard, hands-on, working-class work. I’m also a military veteran, which taught me a lot about discipline, resilience, and what it actually takes to get through hard things — lessons that show up in how I work with clients today.
It’s natural to have questions before starting any type of therapeutic treatment or technique such as hypnotherapy. As a trained, qualified and accredited hypnotherapist, I am enthusiastic and passionate about drug free therapeutic care, that promotes healing the whole person, not just the specific presenting conditions. Therapeutic care such as hypnosis, brings together evidence – based techniques, skilled professionals and the power of the therapeutic relationship itself to address mental, physical and emotional health.
A few years ago, my job as a refinery operator was made redundant. It wasn’t a path I chose — it was one that was chosen for me. But it turned out to be the push I needed to ask a bigger question: what did I actually want to do with the next chapter of my working life? That question became personal fairly quickly. Around that time, I was dealing with my own struggles with depression and PTSD, and hypnotherapy was one of the things that genuinely helped me. Experiencing its effects firsthand — not just reading about them — is what convinced me this was work worth doing for others.
That redundancy led me to train in NLP and hypnotherapy at Mind Academy Australia. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Where refinery work was about keeping a process running safely and reliably, this work is about helping people get themselves running well again — clearing out what’s stuck, whether that’s anxiety, a habit they can’t shake, or a stress response that’s overstayed its welcome.
I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Some clients need to get to the root of where a pattern started; others just need clear, direct suggestion work to move forward. Part of my job is figuring out — with you — which approach actually fits.
I set up my practice here in Banora Point to serve the Tweed Heads and Gold Coast community, because it’s home. If you’re dealing with anxiety, stress, a habit you want gone (smoking included), or a pattern of behaviour that’s no longer serving you, I’d love to help.
If any of this resonates, feel free to get in touch — I’m always happy to have a no-pressure conversation about whether hypnotherapy could help you.
